Tooth Removal

A tooth extraction (removal) may be necessary when a tooth is no longer repairable with a dental filling or crown. A tooth may need to be removed if it has a severe decay (cavity), severe gum disease (bone loss), a crack in the root or crown of the tooth, severe trauma to the tooth, there is not enough space for the tooth, or the tooth is impacted (stuck below the gums).

We are able to remove most teeth at our office. Sometimes, if the situation is more complex, a referral to an oral surgeon may be necessary. We can advise you of this necessity after an x-ray and quick examination. If a tooth is restorable (fixable), we will let you know and give you options. Sometimes a tooth with a large cavity can still be repaired with a root canal.

Removing a tooth will reduce harmful bacteria that can damage your teeth and gums. An untreated dental infection can cause a domino effect of problems in your mouth. Removing the affected tooth gives you a better chance for improved oral health. If the tooth is severely infected, removal will help to ease the pain you experiencing in the area rather quickly.

If you are having pain or swelling with a tooth, give our office a call and we will do our best to assist you to remedy the problem.
