Dentures & Partial Dentures

We are fortunate to be able to make quite a few dentures and partial dentures for patients at our office. It’s something we take a lot of pride in and enjoy doing. A new denture can dramatically change in a person’s smile. What are dentures and when are they made?

Dentures and partial dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth. Full dentures are supported by your jaw bone and tissues inside your mouth. They replace an entire arch (or jaw) of missing teeth. Partial dentures are used to replace teeth in your jaw when not all of the teeth are missing. They can be constructed when a bridge is no longer an option. Partial dentures are generally tooth supported and connected to adjacent teeth for stability. Lastly, there are implant supported dentures and partial dentures. The lifespan of a denture or partial denture is usually 7 to 10 years, though many people do wear them longer.

We work with the best local dental laboratories available when constructing our dentures. Dental technicians help to craft dentures from materials including acrylic, resin, nylon, metal and porcelain. There are usually several steps involved in making both dentures and partial dentures, so several appointments may be required. Don’t worry though, they are usually pretty short!

There are many things to consider when planning dentures or partial dentures. An initial appointment will help to narrow down options for treatment. X-rays will be taken to determine which teeth are useful to keep for partial dentures and which teeth will need to be removed.  If teeth need to be removed, we can usually do that in our office as well. The health of the jaw bones will also be assessed. If you are interested in dentures, give our office a call and we can help you though the process.
